Winch

INSTALLATION GUIDELINES

The provided information outlines important safety and installation guidelines for winches. Pawl Visibility: Install winches so the user can see the pawl for proper engagement.

  • Gravity Engagement: Position winches to allow the pawl to drop between ratchet teeth by gravity during engagement.
  • Installation Position: Avoid installing winches where the pawl is not visible or where users need to manually hold the pawl for engagement.
  • Attachment to Vehicle Structure: For all winches except portable and sliding styles, use welding or bolts for attachment to the vehicle structure. Follow minimum welding requirements: 1/4” fillet weld, 4” long on both sides of the frame, with 1/8” penetration.
  • Structural Strength: The vehicle structure should have equal or greater strength than the winch for secure mounting.
